The molecule has also been extracted from Mistletoe (Phoradendron reichenbachianum).

It is also active against herpes simplex virus.

comes from a Norse myth about Baldur (i don't know this. i just looked it up) which kind of reads like Demeter/Persephone.

Baldur's mother was the Norse goddess, Frigga. When Baldur was born, his mum made every plant, swear not to harm her son but overlooked mistletoe. So ... the mischievous god Loki tricked one of the other gods into killing Baldur with a spear fashioned from mistletoe. The demise of Baldur, a vegetation deity in the Norse myths, brought winter into the world.

Somehow some other, nicer gods restored Baldur to life. After which Frigga pronounced the mistletoe sacred, ordering that from now on it should bring LOVE rather than DEATH into the world.

Then it turned into a symbol for PEACE so, when enemies met in a forest, as yooou do, if there was mistletoe, instead of going for each other's soft bits, they would call a truce until the next day.

How that turned into smooching, I don't know.

Also, apparently mistletoe is only sacred in Scandinavia if it grows on an oak tree. Otherwise, nobody cares.

Hmm. Does it cure herpes all together? Cos i thought once you had it, you had FO LIFE.

the kiss and the cure sure is nice & tidy though. patterns.
